Our Hospital

Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital has been dedicated to providing the Staten Island community with high quality veterinary care since 2011.

Our team is focused on outstanding patient care combined with exceptional client communication. We want every patient to receive the best medical care possible, while communicating effectively with their owners every step of the way. With our convenient patient portal, clients are able to be a part of their pet’s healthy future, accessing medical histories, lab results and even order prescription medications and diets.

At PPAH, we take great pride in the services we provide to our community. We have worked diligently to obtain AAHA accreditation and continue to update protocols to stay current on medical advances and ways to provide a Fear Free environment for our patients. With a complete range of in-house diagnostics tools and analyzers, we are able to provide emergent and tailored treatments for every medical need.

The team at PPAH strives to provide an outstanding workplace culture. It is important to the management that every employee feels valued in their work environment. We also love to train and promote from within, so there is always an opportunity for growth within our company. We provide free CE to all our employees, so you can also learn and grow in what interests you!

The Position

The veterinary nurses at PPAH are an integral part of the practice. We utilize a nurse's medical knowledge for detailed in house patient care, emergency visits, isolation treatments, critical care management, client communication, and routine care. Our senior nurses are also responsible for hospital flow, to ensure all our patients are examined by the doctors in a timely manner and our hospitalized patients are receiving prompt care. We want our veterinary nurses to be leaders and work to their fullest potential.

As part of the nursing team you are expected to provide basic husbandry to all patients, obtain a variety of diagnostic specimens, perform diagnostic tests, administer medications, monitor anesthesia, restrain patients, follow detailed treatment plans provided by a veterinarian, and communicate effectively with pet owners.

PPAH is open 7 days a week with 24 hour medical support at our South Shore location. We perform surgeries Monday through Friday with emergency procedures only on the weekends. Our experienced surgeons perform a wide variety of surgical procedures. PPAH has dedicated surgical nurses who are solely responsible for daily surgical intake, anesthesia monitoring, and post operative care. So if surgery is your interest, let us know! We also have two doctors on staff who love exotics, and we are expanding our exotic client base every day. PPAH utilizes a mobile ultrasound doctor but has in house ultrasound capabilities.

Our Team

Veterinary medicine is a team sport, so we expect everyone at PPAH to work as a team! PPAH is dedicated to making the veterinary experience better for the pet, the owner, and the employee. Our success as a hospital relies on our success as a team, and we practice medicine with that in mind. We expect all of our teammates to bring a positive attitude to the workplace, positivity is contagious! And if something isn’t working out for you, we expect you to communicate. Our management team deeply cares about the wellbeing of our employees, and we value communication from everyone on our team.

PPAH also loves ideas! Our management team is always looking for ways to improve our clinics. We believe in reinventing the wheel! We want our team to feel empowered and feel heard. So if you are an applicant with big ideas (or small ideas), we want to know you.
